What is Mango Sago?
It's a popular Asian dessert, usually served in Asian restaurants or stores. It is said to have originated in Hong Kong, but its popularity spread to neighboring countries like the Philippines, China, and Singapore.
Ingredients
- ripe mangoes
- mango juice
- coconut milk
- sugar
- tapioca pearls
- evaporated milk
Instructions
Follow the directions on how to cook the tapioca pearls, making sure to drain the pearls completely.
In a blender, add 1 cup of diced mangoes, mango juice, and coconut milk, and blend until smooth.
Next, transfer to a large mixing bowl and stir the remaining ingredients until fully combined and chill before serving.
Substitutions
- If you can't find sago pearls, you can use tapioca pearls.
- If you don't have mango available, you can serve it with fresh berries, pineapple, or even frozen fruit!
- If you want to make this dairy-free use your favorite plant based milk instead.
Variations
- The best kinds of mangos to use are Carabao or Alphonso mangos! These mangos are usually sweeter than any other mango variety! You can find them at your local Asian market or Trader Joe's.
- Instead of using granulated sugar, use ¼ cup of condensed milk. If you want it less sweet, add less.
- If your mangos are really sweet, add less sugar.
- If you looking for more texture instead of only using mango juice, use mango puree
Storage
- Store in the fridge for up to 5 days in an airtight container.

Hi,
Can I substitute the mango juice for some other juice as I can’t find mango juice anywhere?
Thanks.Reply
Lainey says
Yes, Max. You may use other fruit juices, like peach juice or papaya juice, but it will taste a little different. You may also opt to just omit the orange juice if it is unavailable or substitute it with mango puree. Thank you for dropping by! 🙂
